Some of you may have noticed that construction has now started on an additional two community facilities at Ebbsfleet Green. Now that is exciting!
In the heart of Ebbsfleet Green, Redrow are building two new facilities, currently referred to as Neighbourhood House and Sports and Leisure Hub. EDC have provided an additional funding of £13m to ensure these buildings will provide what the community needs. And the location ensures they are easily accessible for residents in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Upon completion, these facilities will be transferred to the ownership of EGCT, so we are working closely with Redrow and EDC to ensure the design, environmental performance and sustainability will meet the future needs of our beautiful garden city.
The Sports and Leisure Hub at the Southern end of Ebbsfleet Green will be 1013sqm over two storeys. It will be run by a specialist leisure operator – Freedom Leisure – and will have a gym, exercise studio, changing facilities, community hall (with a capacity of about 200 people), kitchen, café, play space and parking, as well as a pavilion to serve the FA football standard 3G sports pitch and tennis courts. This building will be a hub for community activities, providing spaces that can be hired out by local residents. The Hub is expected to be ready for use in early 2026.
Neighbourhood House will be a 244sqm single storey community space adjacent to the play park and Ebbsfleet Green Primary School, providing a (sub-divided) hall – capacity of about 100 people – commercial kitchen, parcel delivery/return lockers, a community tool shed (imagine a library for borrowing tools instead of books!), and rooms for hire. It is designed for a wide range of community-based activities to be initiated and led by residents and local community groups. Local residents are already talking with us about the types of groups and activities that could be run from Neighbourhood House. If you are interested in discussing your ideas, please contact us via email on Buildings@egctrust.org.uk. Neighbourhood House is expected to be completed in Autumn 2025
As these facilities are for community use, there have been extensive studies and consultations within the local community to better understand the needs, and further consultations will be held at various stages of this development.
Naming the Community Buildings
These two new community buildings need names, and we’d like your help.
We have received contributions from the community, and from this we will create a shortlist, before going to a public vote.
Voting will take place from early December until 12th January 2025
