Phil Miles (Chair)
Registered Housing Provider Trustee

Phil is Director of Clarion Futures, part of Clarion Housing Group, the UK’s largest Housing Association.  Clarion is a major developer on Ebbsfleet.

Clarion Futures is Clarion’s charitable foundation and delivers a wide-ranging socio/economic development programme for social housing residents and communities across England. Phil is also the Chair of Chichester Community Development Trust in West Sussex and has been a trustee for 12 years since its inception.  The Trust owns several local community facilities and is refurbishing a local church with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Valerie Owen
EDC Trustee

Valerie Owen is a multidisciplinary professional – Chartered Architect, Town Planner, Development Surveyor and Environmentalist – expert in sustainable development and regeneration.

In her early career, Valerie specialised in conservation and heritage, converting redundant Listed Buildings to commercial uses. She then became Architect Director at international consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle, upgrading properties in Fund portfolios to maximise investment returns. Later, Valerie became Managing Director at London First, delivering sustainable development programmes through business/government partnerships.

Valerie is passionate about good architecture, placemaking and design and has held numerous Ministerial and NED appointments, serving as a Board member and commissioning client for several major regeneration projects led by the public sector. Valerie is Managing Director of Le Vaillant Owen Consultancy and, until 2021, was Chair of Swan Housing, managing 11,000 houses, a construction company and MMC factory. She currently Chairs the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence and is a member of the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board, seeking to drive improved outcomes in health and social care.

Valerie is an active member of Girlguiding UK, for 20 years she pioneered community education and youth outreach initiatives among disadvantaged girls and women from Bangladeshi Muslim communities in Tower Hamlets, East London, and is experienced in leading/managing volunteers; charity fundraising and international outreach. In 2016-17 Valerie was Chief Guide, UK & Territories and Chair of Trustees, Girlguiding UK, the largest education charity for girls/young women, which has 600,000 UK members and 10 million worldwide

Valerie lives in Deal, east Kent, is married to Bob Le Vaillant and has 3 adopted daughters. Locally, she volunteers for the Walmer RNLI and was previously a Special Needs Advisor for Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme.

Penny Marsh (Vice-Chair)
Resident Trustee

Penny has been working in the North Kent area for over 13 years and living in Ebbsfleet since 2019. She is a Baptist minister with a focus on new housing in North Kent. During this time, she has initiated several new projects including the weekly Sunday Active programme and the Ebbsfleet Coffee morning based in Castle Hill, and a project based in Northfleet.

Prior to moving to Ebbsfleet, she lived and worked in the Royal Docks, East London, where she established a local charity and new church. Penny understands first-hand what it is like to live and work in an area of new housing and is keen to see Ebbsfleet develop as a great place to live with a vibrant sense of community. When not working, Penny likes to run, meet up with friends, and relax with her family.

Michèle Yianni-Attard
Business Trustee and Treasurer

Michèle Yianni-Attard is a distinguished professional with over 30 years of experience in accounting, finance, and business development.

She has held senior roles such as Director, CFO, Senior Accountant, and Tax Advisor in start-ups, multi-million corporations, and NGOs. Michèle excels in streamlining operations to enhance growth and profitability, and she is adept in business and financial controls, productivity improvements, and change management.

An International Accountant and former FCA10a compliant, Michèle was recognised as one of the Top 50 Women in Accounting in 2021. She is an Ambassador for the Institute of Accountants & Bookkeepers UK and continues to manage accounting, payroll, and financial management for companies with up to 160 staff and turnovers of £10 million. Her expertise spans 22 accountancy software packages and CRM systems, with a client portfolio across finance, property, hospitality, and retail. Michèle also brings to the board her experience as a local resident.

Cllr David Mote
Local Authority (Dartford BoroughCouncil) Trustee

David Mote has held senior positions within the employee communication, media relations, external marketing communication and publication editorial disciplines, working within both client and agency environments.

In the late 1990s David was the Director of Marketing and Communications for the then Housebuilders Federation where he jointly chaired the housing industry’s Green Leaf Awards and was responsible for the New Homes Marketing Board. Having retired in 2019 David is currently the Dartford Borough Councillor for Greenhithe & Knockhall and is the Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing, and a former Mayor of Dartford. He is also a Stone Parish Councillor, The Chairman of the Stone (Dartford) Scout Group and a Trustee for MCK (Marys Child Kent), the Greenhithe Community Centre and We are Beams.David has lived in what was a brand new home in Stone for 30 years and has family and friends living in Ebbsfleet, Swanscombe and Greenhithe. His passions include supporting his local community and turning new build developments into integrated, sustainable and family friendly neighbourhoods.

Cllr Jo Hart
Local Authority (Gravesham BoroughCouncil) Trustee

I’m Jo, Gravesend, born and bred.

After leaving college I commuted to London to work for Unilever, until I moved away from the area.  I had been working for Nat West in Faversham for a year when I took the opportunity to spend time in the Canary Islands in order to learn Spanish.

On my return to the UK, I worked in London for a merchant bank in the Management Accounts and Information Department until I had my children in 1985.  I chose to raise both my children here in the Borough of Gravesham, as I still had family living here.

I took a break as one of my children was hospitalised on and off for a number of years, after which getting back into the labour market was very hard. I took a part time post in a local school and stayed there for 15 years working my way up from clerical assistant to the post of Bursar and Clerk to the Governors.  At this point I decided that a change of careers was needed, so I started at Southeastern as a Rest Day Relief, working in most stations around the Southeastern network. I stayed for 11 years, until I retired in 2017.

After retiring I had intended to spend time travelling, but ill health following an accident in 2018 left me mobility restricted.  In 2022 I was selected to stand for election as the Labour candidate for Northfleet and Springhead ward,  and in May 2023 I was elected to serve as a councillor.

I was put forward to join the EGCT board by John Burden. As Gravesham BC’s representative on the board as it was felt that it would be good to have someone familiar with the ward  of Springhead Parkway.  I am hoping that with this appointment I will be able to enhance the lives of not only the residents, but also those around the new developments. The planned community, leisure and other spaces the trust is responsible for will enhance the lives of all around the area in perpetuity.  I look forward to my time on the board of trustees and working to improve the local environment.

Sam Bott
Business Trustee

Born in Dartford, and living locally, I have a strong desire to help build and be part of a local community. Over recent years I have enjoyed building a business that services the needs of the local community.

I started The Blue Bean Coffee Co. in 2013, with the focus of being an ECO friendly coffee roaster, supplying small independents with both coffee beans & coffee machinery throughout the UK. At The Blue Bean we use 80% less energy than a normal coffee roasters, with sustainability being a keen focus of everything that we do.

In 2019 we opened our first coffee shop in Ebbsfleet International Train Station, supplying a range of hot & cold drinks and food to commuters. We opened our 2nd coffee shop at Ashmere, Whitecliffe, working closely with Clarion Housing & Countryside Homes, providing both our hot & cold drinks offerings as well as basic amenities to the new community.

In 2022 we opened our 3rd coffee shop at the new Castle Hill development, where our main focus is to be the focal point of the community – we host live music events, quiz nights, yoga classes, fitness classes and many other seasonal themed activities.

We are continuing to use our food offering to meet the needs of the community including our soon to be launched new concept – once a month a local food business is invited to pop up in The Blue Bean, this will help showcase local businesses and provide local residents with a more diverse food offering

I look forward to using my local business experience to provide input into the direction and operations of EGCT.

Peter Bolton
Co-opted Trustee

After a degree in music at Cardiff University and postgraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music, Peter started a career in arts management in 1985.

His early career was spent in short term contracts with various festivals in thiscountry and abroad including the Edinburgh International Festival and Festival ofSydney before a stint as Tour Manager for The Academy of Ancient Music. Hehas been the Music Officer for Southern Arts Board, Concert Hall Manager for the Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton and Chief Executive & Artistic Director of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. From 2004 – 2008 he ran his own business programming the International Orchestral Series at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham and Artistic Director of Petworth Festival as well as providing consultancy services to cultural organisations throughout England.

In September 2008 he took up the post of Chief Executive of Kent Music which in 2012 became the lead partner for the Music Education Hub for Kent. The Hub is funded by Arts Council England to work with schools, teachers, arts organisations and other partners to provide music education opportunities for all children and young people in the county.

Peter has a busy life away from Kent Music as a trustee of Music Mark, the subject association for music education, and as clarinet player with various groups around Kent. He also enjoys a bit of cycling to keep fit.

Ibrahim Oyedele
Community, Voluntary and Faith (VCF) Trustee

Ibrahim is an experienced IT Security Leader with over 15 years’ expertise across the public, private, and financial sectors, specialising in governance, risk management, and secure digital transformation.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and an MSc in Network and Computer Systems Security, alongside multiple professional certifications.

Alongside his professional career, Ibrahim has led significant grassroots initiatives. He is President of the League of Nigerian Imams and Scholars in the UK & Ireland, and the founder of The Muslim Connect UK (Ebbsfleet Muslim Community), which has grown into a vibrant hub serving over 500 people through youth mentoring, education, wellbeing programmes, and skills training. He also serves as a Global Peace Ambassador, representing the UK in international peacebuilding initiatives.

Happily married and living locally with his wife and three children, Ibrahim is passionate about family, inclusion, and building cohesive, sustainable communities. Outside of his professional and community commitments, he enjoys football, tennis, reading, travelling, and mentoring young people.

 

Michelle Payne
Resident Trustee

Michelle and her husband moved to Ebbsfleet in 2015, drawn by the chance to be part of a new and growing community. At the time, she was working as a Practice Manager at a private medical clinic in the City of London, where she managed the day-to-day running of the practice and worked closely with both patients and clinicians in a busy, fast-paced setting.

In 2020, Michelle set up her own Virtual Assistant business, Time Matters. She now supports clients from a wide range of sectors, including education, safeguarding, design, fitness, coaching, and counselling. Her work focuses on helping organisations with operations, marketing, and social media, enabling them to thrive in their business.

Community has always been important to Michelle. She first got involved locally through the Friday Coffee Morning and has since supported a variety of projects and events, including those with the Ebbsfleet Baptist Church, the Ebbsfleet Events Committee, and the Salvation Army. In 2020, she became a member of the Ebbsfleet Community Board, aiming to represent residents and make a positive contribution to the area’s development. She also plays an active role in her children’s school PTA, helping to raise funds for the school. Most recently, Michelle helped establish the Ebbsfleet Voices community choir, a project close to her heart that brings local residents together through music.
