The winter months have not stopped the foundations and floor plate being laid and the building is taking shape. The spaces have been defined ready for walls and doors. In addition to the main building, the foundations for the eye-catching canopy are being laid. Looking like furniture imprints or feet, these will ensure the canopy stays up as long as the building does.

Work has begun on framing the building and the first walls go up. The main material being used is called CLT – Cross Laminated Timber – and it will form a part of the building’s final internal decor. Don’t worry, it’s a strong, stable material that can be used for walls, roofs, and floors. Our buildings are being built to be enjoyed for many years to come.

The build is coming on leaps and bounds and March is proving to be a big month for our first community building. Now with its new official name Weldon Heart all walls are up and the roof is on. Internally all walls are up too and it’s now easy to get a feel for the great spaces the community will have for their events. Not yet water tight but looking good!

Weldon Heart is a neighbourhood house ‘community living room’ with a mix of spaces designed to bring the community together. Internally walls and spaces are being prepared for the ventilation, plumbing and other utlitilies to go in. There is also an external space for a parcel locker. Like any good neighbour, we’ll even take your deliveries in for you.

The windows are in! And May was all about the inside. The building continues to be prepped in readiness for the mechanical and electrical installations to begin. The green covering will soon be covered with wood cladding and the roof will include solar panels for energy efficiency.

Despite the relaxed look, the contractors are working hard to complete this fantastic neighbourhood building. The windows you can see are mirrored on the opposite wall. This will give users a view of the play area at one end and the terrace at the other. The bi-fold doors let in a great deal of light and when open, will give a feeling of extra space.

Work continues internally to install the pipes, ducts, and cabling that will facilitate utilities. The final exterior finish is in place, and the building has undergone a transformation once more. The Timber cladding gives Weldon Heart a softer appearance and aligns with the development plan of eco-friendly, sustainable buildings.
